Our floor and walls are anything but flat, so here's what had to be done to provide a flat, horizontal support structure for the granite counter top:
- Level front-back on both sides
- Level left-right on front and back
- Drill pilot holes and install screws in back of cabinet to secure to wall studs with shims, as needed to fill wall depressions
- Repeat this process with each cabinet, while maintaining the same height as the previous cabinet
- Ensure adjacent cabinet frames are in perfect alignment, then clamp cabinets together, drill pilot holes, counter-sink and install screws to tie cabinets permanently together.
We'll put some boards on top to use as some much needed temporary counter space. On Monday I will install the handles on the cabinet doors and drawers and re-install them on the cabinets.
Meanwhile, Sharron installed a dust barrier and started tearing down one side of the dividing wall. By the end of the day, she had decimated the vast majority of the wall and exposed all the wiring that I will relocate to the small section of wall that we will build next to the new location for the refrigerator.
She also cut out a piece of drywall to cover the wall vent that we removed yesterday. Amanda is dying to start painting the kitchen, so I'll spackle the patch first thing on Monday.
Here's Sharron!! |
The PEEK-A-BOO! picture of Mom is fantastic.
ReplyDeleteAgain, sledges and crowbars.....sounds like fun!! Did you measure the gap on each side of the level bubble? I would expect nothing less!
